CT Hearing Voices Network by Advocacy Unlimited

CT Hearing Voices Network Groups are based firmly on a belief in self-help, mutual respect and understanding. They provide a safe space for people to share their experiences of voices, visions, unusual sensory perceptions, and to support one another. They are peer support groups involving social support and belonging, not therapy or treatment. The groups can offer an opportunity for people to accept and find meaning in their experiences in a way that helps them regain power over their lives.

See all CT Hearing Voices Network Support Group Meetings in the new updated CT HVN Flyer.

Alternatives to Suicide

Alternatives to Suicide Peer Support Groups provide a forum wherein people who feel or have felt suicidal can talk about their experiences without being judged. People in these groups share their struggles and successes, provide support for one another, and strategize about alternatives to help each other best cope with difficult life circumstances. This group will offer the opportunity to talk openly about suicide and the feelings of deep emotional distress with others who have had or are currently experiencing difficult times. People are encouraged to come in both times of strength or in challenging times. AU's Hilary Bryant and Martin Burke will be the group facilitators.

Beyond Anger

AU is pleased to present a special workshop for women

“Beyond Anger and Violence”

AU is pleased to host a special workshop for women with an inspiring curriculum written by Dr. Stephanie Covington. This workshop starts the conversation with women about anger and violence. Many women have spent years focusing their anger inward or outward and have established patterns in their lives that may have created difficult circumstances and/or resulted in unpleasant consequences. This 20-session weekly workshop, divided into four segments, invites female participants to explore different areas of their lives. The sessions focus on strengths and help women examine the ways in which, as women, they express their emotions. This workshop will allow for open discussion around the sensitive topics of anger and violence and will provide positive suggestions participants can apply to their lives. The women will learn together and continue working toward becoming the best individuals for themselves, their families, their communities, and their world.

This 20-week workshop is divided into four 5-week segments. New members will be accepted every five weeks each time a new segment is begun. Co-facilitators for this weekly workshop will be Robin Cullen and AU's Linda Lentini.
